Jimmy Lyons Scholarship at Berklee College of Music

Each year, Berklee College of Music seeks applicants for the prestigious James L. Lyons Scholarship at the college. The Lyons Scholarship is named in honor of the Monterey Jazz Festival’s late founder, James L. (Jimmy) Lyons, who started the festival in 1958 with a jazz education program at its core. It is a full-tuition scholarship awarded to a student from the West Coast who is accepted for the upcoming fall semester. Students are considered for this award based on their participation in the live audition and interview process, which is part of their application for full-time study at Berklee College of Music.

“The educational program of Monterey Jazz is one of its greatest legacies.  I know I wouldn’t be playing music professionally if it hadn’t been for that.”
